RED RAMPA: WOMEN FILMMAKERS MATCHMAKING MADRID 2025

RAMPARed Abierta de Mujeres Profesionales del Audiovisual, and Festival Cine por Mujeres Madrid have joined forces and expanded their goals to launch a new project aimed at fostering the internationalization and recognition of Spanish female directors abroad while strengthening their professional development and consolidating their presence in the audiovisual market. This professional event is made possible through a grant from the Dirección General de Industrias Culturales del Ministerio de Cultura; the collaboration of the Comunidad de Madrid and Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Spain; the support of companies such as Music Library & SFX, RC Service, and Subtitula’M; and various professional associations like AMA (Asociación Madrileña Audiovisual), CIMA (Asociación de Mujeres Cineastas y de Medios Audiovisuales) and MIA (Mujeres en la Industria de la Animación), among others.

WHAT IS RED RAMPA: WOMEN FILMMAKERS MATCHMAKING MADRID 2025 AND WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?

It is a dual project. On one hand, two industry-focused sessions will be held in Madrid to support feature film productions in fiction, animation, and documentary, directed by Spanish women or women residing in Spain, currently in the advanced Work in Progress (WIP) phase. On the other hand, a selection of six recent feature films by Spanish women directors, who have previously participated in the Festival Cine por Mujeres Madrid, will be showcased at three different international festivals.

 1. MADRID INDUSTRY FORUM | Matchmaking Sessions 2025
What’s the goal?

  • Attract investment for Spanish cinema.
  • Promote co-production and international distribution.
  • Strengthen the presence of films directed by women in international festivals and markets.
  • Professionalize women filmmakers in both national and international scenes.
  • Foster networking among industry professionals.

How does it work?
Through an open call, Spanish female directors or those residing in Spain, and/or their production companies, can submit feature film projects in advanced development or Work in Progress (WIP) stages. From all the submissions, six projects will be selected to be presented during a session by their directors and/or producers to festival programmers, international market representatives, sales agents, funding bodies, as well as production and distribution companies. Each project will have up to 20 minutes of footage screened (with English subtitles), including a rough cut featuring sequences that introduce characters, locations, and dialogue examples. In the afternoon, One-to-One meetings will take place between project presenters and both Spanish and international industry representatives. The following day, in a public session, attendees can participate in a Master Class led by an international expert, after which special mentions and in-kind awards will be presented to the selected projects.

What opportunities will the selected directors have?

  • Publicly present their work in a professional setting with experts from the Spanish and international film industry, gaining visibility for their project.
  • Find collaboration opportunities with key industry figures.
  • Gain exclusive access to international networking spaces.
  • Compete for in-kind awards granted by associations and companies supporting the event.

When and where?
In Madrid, Spain, in April 10th and 11th 2025. The call for submissions will be published in January.

2.  PREMIERE | Showcase of 6 Feature Films by Spanish Women Directors in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

The Goal
To promote the international visibility of Spanish cinema directed by women, encourage the exchange of experiences, facilitate the international mobility of Spanish women directors, and foster international cultural cooperation. Additionally, this project aims to showcase Spain's cultural diversity abroad and enhance its image as a top-tier cultural leader.

What does it involve?
Each of the three international host festivals, which share the common goal of promoting visibility for films directed by women, will screen a selection of six recent feature films by Spanish women directors. These films will be chosen from those that participated in the 'Spanish Competition' section of the last two editions of the Festival Cine por Mujeres Madrid. (Spanish Competition 2024 Spanish Competition 2023).

What makes this project unique?
It promotes Spanish cinema abroad and fosters networking by facilitating the participation of Spanish female directors in international festivals and markets. One of the six selected directors for the feature films will travel to each of the three international festivals, accompanied by one of the RAMPA directors, who will present the entire cycle.During their visit to the festivals, the directors will have the opportunity to:

  • Present their film to the local audience and engage in discussions with them.
  • Give a talk about their career.
  • Participate in networking activities and exclusive professional meetings with directors, producers, distributors, and local experts.
