FILM PREMIERES
Spanish female directors showcase in Europe, Asia, and Latin America: 13 feature films and 29 screenings
What is “Film Premiers”?
One of the main goals of Red RAMPA – Open Network of Women Professionals in Audiovisual Media – and the Cine por Mujeres Madrid Festival is to promote the talent and film work of Spanish women directors abroad. Over the past editions of the festival, we have collaborated with various international festivals: Baturu-China International Women’s Film Festival (CWFF), China; Krakow Film Festival, Poland; Sguardi Altrove Film Festival Milan, Italy; and the Amiens International Film Festival, France.
What is it about?
Thanks to a grant from the Directorate General of Cultural Industries of the Spanish Ministry of Culture, this project promotes the international premieres of Spanish feature films directed by women, the international mobility of Spanish women filmmakers, the exchange of experiences, and cultural cooperation. It also showcases the cultural diversity of Spain and enhances its image as a top-tier cultural reference.
A cycle of films by Spanish women directors will be screened at three international host festivals. Each will premiere a selection of around six recently produced feature films, curated by their own programming committees, chosen from the films featured in the “Spanish Competition” section of the last two editions of the Cine por Mujeres Madrid Festival (Spanish Competition 2023 and 2024). Since some of these films will be shown at more than one festival, a total of XX feature films will be exhibited with XX screenings: 6 in Vannes, 6 in Beijing, 7 in Shanghai, and 7 in San José, Costa Rica.
What makes this project unique?
While it gives international visibility to Spanish cinema, it also fosters networking and the participation of Spanish women directors in international festivals and markets. One or two directors of the selected films will travel to each of the three international festivals, accompanied by RAMPA’s co-directors, who will present the cycle of six selected Spanish films.
To give international visibility to Spanish cinema, promote networking, and encourage the participation of Spanish female directors in international festivals and markets, one or two directors from the selected feature films will travel to each of the three international festivals to present their films to the local audience, engage in discussions with the audience, offer a talk about their careers, and participate in networking activities, as well as exclusive professional meetings with directors, producers, distributors, and experts. They will be accompanied by the co-directors of RAMPA, who will present the entire project.
Which are the host festivals?
For our greater satisfaction, two of these international festivals will open their 2025 editions with one of the feature films we have proposed by Spanish female directors. It is a great pride for us.
It is the only independent film festival in China and Hong Kong dedicated to #womeninfilm and #empowerment. The BATURU Festival, formerly known as the China Women’s Film Festival, advocates for women’s rights and raises awareness about issues specifically affecting women in both culture and society at large.
To promote the international mobility of Spanish women directors, the exchange of experiences, and cultural cooperation, the following will travel to Beijing and Shanghai with the support of the Cervantes Institutes in both cities and the BATURU Festival: directors Arantxa Echevarría, Sonia Méndez, and Pilar Sánchez Díaz (producer and director of photography of Chinas), along with the directors of RAMPA and the Films by Women Madrid Festival, Carlota Álvarez Basso and Diego Mas Trelles.

For 23 years, the Cinécran association has explored European cinema, offering a broad view of the cultural diversity of its countries. We present a carefully curated selection of classic and contemporary films, including rare, cult, short films, feature films, documentaries, fiction, and animation.
In 2025, we pay tribute to Spain, a country with a rich cinematic tradition, great filmmakers, and numerous lesser-known works that are worth rediscovering. This year will be marked by reflection on the role of women in cinema throughout history and the search for greater inclusion in the film industry in the coming years.
