En 2012 mueve la actividad de Candella Films a España, donde ha dirigido su primer Largometraje Documental en 2013; Blank Canvas.

Biografía

MARIELA ARTILES

Graduated in Audiovisual Media and Design Studies at the University of Central Lancashire in 1997, Mariela has an extensive experience of film directing, Producing and distributing as well as programming for International Film Festivals and Exhibitors. She completed her first feature length documentary “Blank Canvas”, at the beginning of 2013, Premiered in October 2013 at the 58th edition of the International film festival, Seminci, Valladolid, Spain.

In 2003 Mariela formed an independent film production and Distribution Company based in Manchester UK, Candella films LTD., with the aim of producing documentaries and fiction for Cinema and TV. Working with community groups to simulate a dynamic film culture and education and stimulate a taste for cinematic quality. From which she produced and directed many documentary projects with social groups for the BBC Manchester.

In 2005 Candella Films introduced the Latin American shorts strand of VIVA! Spanish and Latin American Film Festival in Manchester and worked on the programming of this festival till 2010. The collaborations with the festival are still continuing in terms of distribution.

2010 Run filmmaking workshops. Distribute and co-ordinate Latin American films for U.K. cinemas and festivals. Provide freelance film festival programming services. She creates de distribution folder Best British shorts in collaboration with the University of Salford to support the existence of economical culture in short film sales and promote new film talent.

In 2010 she comes to Spain, her hometown, to direct and produce her first short film in Spain SKYE, premiered at the official competition, the night of Spanish Cinema at the 55th edition of the International film festival, Seminci, Valladolid Spain.

In 2013 Candella films funds The Film Academy, with the support of the BBC and the North West Regional Development, “Skills Set” for Professionals of the Film Industry in Collaboration with Salford City College.

The aim of this project is to deliver quality workshops giving participants a unique opportunity to develop skills in different areas of film crafts. These workshops are run by film professionals known for their work on well-known successful feature films.

And in 2015th and present time she based full time in Spain when she creates AECINE www.aecine.com a film school in the South of the Capital of Madrid, with the aim of reaching people from the outskirts of the city and bring them film culture, similar to the work done with her film academy, BBC and Candella films in the north west of England.

In the last years she has been dedicated to her personal projects, directing and writing as well as continuing with the work of programming, distribution and education.

2021 LA REINA DE LAS NIEVES Director and Script Writer . Feature Film Documentary for TV about the Spanish author Carmen Martin Gaite. Produce by Spanish TV and Chema de la Peña and Tu Luz y mi Calma. Premiered February 2021 on Spanish TV with five hundred thousand viewers and many positive reviews on Spanish papers. LInks

In Development from 2018 MUJERES PERFECTAS now FAIRY TALE, so far received the development awards from Comunidad de Madrid, SGAE, Ventana de Cine Madrileño, Madrid CreaLab and Film Madrid. Coproduced by Belino Production S.L. Antonello Novellino. Closed international sales with BEGIN AGAIN FILMS.

Supported by “Comunidad de Madrid Film Project” and ICAA Awarded with the distribution programme Madrid en Corto. With many awards and official selections in festivals around the world and short listed for the Goya Nominations.

Throughout the years carried out collaborations with many film festival in the UK as distribution and promotion of British cinema. Creator of the Best British Short Films forlder, Candella UK. 8 years director of the VIVA Film festival in Manchester UK. Programming and collaborator with the BBC Film Network, University of Salford and the Raindance film Festival in London, Curzon Soho or Fact cinemas in Liverpool as well as Hat Factory in Luton, Rushes Soho, Encounteres short films and Animation in Bristol, Interfilm in Berlin Germany.
